The event “Forum for discussing policy recommendations and exploring collaborations in the field of Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development” took place on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, at the Athalassa Environmental Education Centre in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Forum was organised by the Unit of Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, in collaboration with the research organisation CARDET. It was held as part of the completion of the European project AELIA – Applying a multi-stakeholder and whole-institutional approach to education for sustainability.
During the Forum, the three-year AELIA project was presented in its entirety, along with the AELIA White Paper that includes the final policy recommendations developed through its implementation. This was followed by discussion, exchange of ideas, and critical dialogue on how these proposals can be utilised to strengthen strategies and practices in Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development in Cyprus.
The event also included workshops aimed at exchanging ideas and exploring collaborations for the implementation of the policy recommendations in different educational settings. Participants jointly developed suggestions for potential synergies that could support the future implementation of actions benefiting both the educational community and society at large.
The Forum brought together representatives from various departments and directorates of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare in Cyprus, the Cyprus Energy Agency, as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations, educators, and other stakeholders, confirming the multi-stakeholder nature of the project and the need for collective action in the field of sustainability.
