Empowering Educators: AELIA Seminar Sparks Sustainable Transformation in Serbia
May 30, 2025

WEBIN successfully organised an engaging online training webinar for educators as part of the European project AELIA. The event, titled “Teaching for Sustainability: Educators as Catalysts for Real-World Change,” took place on May 23, 2025, gathering 50 participants from diverse educational levels — from pre-school to higher education.

The webinar brought together formal and non-formal educators, including pre-school, primary, and secondary school teachers, university professors, and education professionals from non-formal learning environments. The focus was on exploring and applying the whole-institution approach to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), offering participants practical strategies to embed sustainability into their teaching practices and institutions. The event fostered lively discussions and generated promising, actionable project ideas.

Laying the Groundwork for Sustainable Change

The webinar opened with a comprehensive introduction to ESD, emphasising its pivotal role in driving institutional transformation. Participants explored how ESD can lead to visible, meaningful changes within their schools and communities while cultivating a sustainability-oriented mindset.

This first segment concluded with an interactive exchange, where participants shared experiences and insights, encouraging collaborative reflection and laying a solid foundation for the next, action-oriented phase of the webinar.

From Vision to Action: Designing Practical Sustainability Projects

The second part of the webinar transitioned from reflection to practice. Participants collaborated in five virtual groups to develop sustainability projects specifically tailored to their educational contexts and aligned with ESD principles.

Each group presented their project proposals, leading to a productive exchange of ideas and actionable suggestions for further development and future partnerships. The event successfully empowered educators with practical tools and inspiration to lead sustainable initiatives in their institutions.
