WEBIN successfully implemented a two-day training seminar for educational leaders within the scope of the European project AELIA. The event entitled “Shaping Sustainable Schools: Leadership for Real-World Impact“ took place on May 19 and 20, 2025 with the participation of 31 educatational leaders. Namely, over two impactful days, the AELIA project seminar brought together passionate educators, institutional leaders, and sustainability advocates to explore and apply the whole-institution approach to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The event offered not only insightful discussions but also practical tools to drive meaningful, systemic change within educational settings.
Building Strong Foundations for Change
The seminar opened with a deep dive into the theoretical foundations of the whole-institution approach. Participants were introduced to the AELIA project’s vision and key objectives, gaining a clear understanding of the project’s ambition to embed sustainability across all levels of educational practice.
The first day concluded with an engaging, hands-on workshop where participants actively applied the holistic ESD framework to real-world educational scenarios. This interactive session encouraged meaningful exchanges, practical reflection, and collaborative problem-solving, setting the tone for the next phase of the seminar.
Turning Ideas into Action: Developing Tailored Sustainability Plans
The second day shifted focus from theory to action, offering a series of interactive, practical workshops designed to empower participants to develop custom sustainability plans for their own schools and organisations. These sessions guided attendees through crafting vision and mission statements grounded in sustainability values, mapping out organisational, pedagogical, and community-based strategies, and identifying key methods for tracking progress and ensuring continuous improvement.
Participants left the seminar with concrete tools, actionable strategies, and a renewed sense of purpose—ready to champion sustainable practices and foster lasting change within their institutions.
